I brought in a very special (to me) and somewhat valuable antique print for framing. I made clear how special this piece is, how carefully it must be handled, etc., and assumed the shop had experience working with all kinds of valuable, personal pieces. I selected the UV blocker glass and ordered the thickest spacers available; thick spacers are essential to allow the old paper to breathe, which prevents mold/foxing. When I got the art back, there were no spacers at all. They said they used the UV glass, but now that such a big error was made by totally neglecting the spacers, how can I trust anything they say? Their work was extremely careless, oblivious to even the most basic instructions. To top it all off, when I went back to have the spacers put in, I got the art back with the backing and hanger installed upside down. So they had to fix that. What else could they possibly get wrong? It’s like they simply do not care about their work or their customers, who are charged top dollar. I’ve had other experiences here where the work is careless and there is no attention to detail when preparing the art for framing, but this review is already getting too long. Unfortunately I will be forced to go elsewhere for my next job... Here’s a hint: When you are handling valuable art that people spend a lot of money to frame and preserve, you might want to take extra care in your work, pay attention to the key details, etc. Otherwise you are failing at your business.
